After finishing last season with an 8-8 record, The Dallas Cowboys aim to reach their first Super Bowl in 25 years with new head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy replaced Jason Garrett who was fired after 9 full seasons as Dallas’ head coach. The Cowboys only made the playoffs in 3 of those years, failing to advance past the Divisional Round in each postseason. McCarthy may be new to Dallas but the veteran head coach led the Green Bay Packers from 2006-2018 making 9 playoff appearances in his 13 seasons with the team, including a Super Bowl title that came in the 2010 season.

The Los Angeles Rams open up the 2020 season with a new logo, new uniforms, and a new home—SoFi Stadium. However, on the field the Rams will have to find a way to replace RB Todd Gurley who was released in March and signed with the Falcons. Gurley racked up 58 rush TD in his five seasons with the team. QB Jared Goff will now rely on RB’s Malcolm Brown, Darrell Henderson Jr., and rookie Cam Akers who posted 1,144 yards and 14 rush TD last season at FSU.

The Los Angeles Rams and the Dallas Cowboys will face off at 8:20 p.m. ET Sept. 13 at SoFi Stadium to kick off their 2020 seasons. Los Angeles was not at the top of the league last season, but they wrapped up the year with a winning record of 9-7. Meanwhile, last year was nothing to brag about for Dallas (8-8), so the team is looking forward to a new start.

A pair of last-season offensive stats to keep an eye on: The Rams were fourth best in rushing touchdowns, finishing the 2019 season with 20. The Cowboys displayed some offensive firepower of their own as they ranked first in the league in yards per game, closing the year with 431.5 on average.

The neutral point spread forecasts a close one for these two. We’ll see if the game is as close as the oddsmakers expect or if one of these teams has a surprise blowout in them.

All “Sunday Night Football” games in 2020 will broadcast live on NBC. The network’s TV rights deal with the NFL gives it all “Sunday Night Football” games as well as the annual Thursday night season-opener, and NBC is given a spot in the Super Bowl broadcast rotation.

NBC’s team of announcers features play-by-play man Al Michaels, analyst Cris Collinsworth and sideline reporter Michele Tafoya. However, Michals this season will be given a few “bye weeks” because his age (75) puts him at a high risk for COVID-19. Veteran broadcaster Mike Tirico will take Michaels’ place on those weeks.

The Dallas running back’s success has translated to road games as well, as three of his five best rushing performances came away from AT&T Stadium.

That’s a positive sign for the Cowboys, who will look to challenge the Rams defensive line from the first snap.

Although the Rams possess some of the best pass-rushers in the league, they rank 23rd in rushing defense.

L.A. concedes 122.3 rushing yards per game and 5.1 yards per attempt, which opens the door for Elliott to come close to his ninth triple-digit ground game.

In each of their past five games, the Rams gave up more than 100 yards on the ground, and if they don’t switch things up defensively in preparation for Elliott, that streak will run to six.

Gurley is going to have a tougher time gaining yards Saturday against Dallas’ fifth-ranked rushing defense, which gave up more than 100 rushing yards on six occasions in the regular season.
